Chennai: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, on Wednesday announced its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Assembly elections, releasing a list of 65 constituencies allotted to its alliance partners across the state.
As per the official announcement, the AIADMK will contest 169 of the 234 Assembly seats, while 65 seats have been distributed among its NDA allies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has been allotted 27 constituencies, including Mylapore, Thalli, Modakurichi, Udhagamandalam, Avadi, Thiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, Coimbatore North, Nagercoil, and Ramanathapuram.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi has received 18 seats, including Salem West, Dharmapuri, Vikravandi, Mayiladuthurai, Sholingur, Ambattur, Perambur, and Salem North.
The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam will contest 11 constituencies, among them Periyakulam, Mannargudi, Thiruvaiyaru, Karaikudi, Saidapet, Poonamallee, and Nanguneri.
The Tamil Maanila Congress has been allotted five constituencies, including Ottanchatram, Erode West, Ranipet, Kumbakonam, and Kiliyur.
The Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi will contest in Pallavaram and Kunnam, while Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and Puratchi Bharatham have been allotted one seat each in Rajapalayam and Keezhvaithinanankuppam, respectively.
Earlier in the day, the AIADMK released its first list of 23 candidates. On March 23, the party had already indicated the seat-sharing formula for key allies, confirming 27 seats for BJP, 18 for PMK, and 11 for AMMK.
The announcement was made by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at a joint press conference in Chennai, attended by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagendran, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, and AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran.
Separately, Palaniswami also released the party’s election manifesto, which outlines 297 promises, including ₹2,000 monthly assistance for women heads of households, a ₹10,000 one-time support per family, additional ration benefits, distribution of refrigerators, and three free cooking gas cylinders annually. The manifesto also proposes extending free bus travel to men.
Tamil Nadu is set to vote in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The main contest is expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led NDA, while actor-turned-politician Vijay’s TVK is also expected to add a new dimension to the race.
